Monogram Fonts
There comes a time when you may decide you want your own monogram. You know that is true because when you see someone who has added their monogram to specific places like their shirts or shower curtains, it is almost always a stylistic and artistic way of representing those simple initials of their name. You know that the people who like to use monograms probably did not design those elaborate designs from scratch. So when you decide to make your personal monogram as well, you should not let lack of ideas of how you want it to look or lack of artistic ability hold you back.
It really isn’t the initials themselves that make a monogram really cool. It is the font. Some fonts that are used for monograms are so elaborate that you have to look for a while to even tell what the initials are. So when the time comes to design your own monogram, where do you start? The process of finding the perfect font really isn’t all that difficult.
One way to discover fonts that will look for your monogram is to browse some web sites or catalogs that sell monogrammed shirts or towels or other items. With a small amount of digging, you can find the pages where the monogram for the specially item is ordered. There the web site or catalog will show dozens and dozens of gorgeous monograms using the same set of initials so you can compare the look of each one to the others.
This doesn’t mean you are going to order anything from these locations because the reasons you want a monogram are your own. Not everybody creates one to go on towels and shirts. But each monogram shown on those sales pages will also display a font name which you can note when the time comes to create your own monogram. You are just using the work others have done before you to find the font look you want.
Another great place to go to "play around" with different fonts to use for your monogram is your own computer. Most of us have Microsoft Word and that tool comes with dozens of fonts that you can use to make text look great. All you have to do is open a document and put the initials on the document that you want to use. Block that text and start changing the font. The font change function is under the format drop down menu and you will probably find dozens of them to play around with.
You can easily lose an evening or many just fooling around with the fonts on your own computer looking for just the right one for your monogram. But when you settle on one and start having it produced for your stationary or to put on your cuff links, you will feel very elegant because you have become one of "those people" who have their own monogram and it will be one you designed yourself.
